Mike - Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals
Mike has been playing bass for 15 yers, but started off by accident when a friend lent him a badly made lead guitar with two missing strings to play about with. This made playing chords sound very odd so rather than replace the missing strings, Mike began to carve out bass rhythms instead. A week later Mike had bought his first proper bass and hasn't touched a lead guitar since.
A full diploma from the guitar institute at the London Music School finished off the technical side of things and he now concentrates on providing the power to drive the band, while creating innovative sounds and touches to traditional bass parts. His collection of 3 basses includes an unusual, if somewhat battered Fender Power Jazz/Precision hybrid that produces a wonderfully warm tone and a fretless bass for those more soulful moments.
As Mike had played with Stuart in a previous band, it was easy to fit in with Inside Edge when Jim asked the pair to join the band in 2001 resulting in a rhythm section that has never been stronger, allowing the vocals and guitar the freedom to create their own styles.
Although Mike has never considered humself a natural singer, he now forms an essential element of the four-part harmonies that really set Inside Edge apart.
